The lure of gold

If you saw 550gp just lying there on a rug, you'd leave it alone right. For sure there's something like a very large dragon guarding that pile of coin.

So not so much a dragon, but a Spectator. A spectator is a lesser type of beholder, and I'm glad we didn't meet an actual full blown Beholder or we would've all been taking a trip across the river Styx. Meanwhile, you see me just rolling a hidden check. Lucky I'm really good at that - even with its five eyeballs looking around, I remain out of sight like a hobbit shitting his pants, as this Spectator was definitely not looking for an evening of good conversation.

So, it's dead. What the hell did that Spectator do to Craig? Here we see his smouldering remains silently emitting this stinky yellow gas. Now where is that res scroll - I feel we're going to need more than one.

Dave cast this Flaming Aura, which is this burning ball - which does his bidding. But it's also cool to throw a barrel of oil at, especially if it's standing next to a bunch of monster.

When you've gotta go, you've gotta go. I don't think I've ever seen this before, I've sure I would've blogged about it - but it could account for the stench. But then again, there are no bath houses here either - when was the last time we took a bath?

Here Zaph pulls an Excalibur - and survives. I would've put money on that going south, given we had just res'ed him after a surprise encounter with a Bulette. I did not know D&D had "Tremors"-like monsters - neither did Zaph.

This underworld is seriously full of things that all just want to kill you.

There's supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom

So there's iron gate, with a unpickable lock.

But there was all this loot, so we smashed the gate with brute force. Me thinks this was a tad too easy.

Mind-flayers. Why did have to be mind-flayers...
Sometimes it's just better to leave dead things dead, talking to the dead is not all it's cracked up to be.

This crazy lady something something story story story...

So we learned the hard way, that blood can be turned to ice - and that it can be the simple trip hazards that can be your undoing. Here we see Zaph, knocked out cold, lying flat on his back in a pool of icy blood. Meanwhile Craig finds out the hard way that the back of the room is kind of vulnerable. I'm rolling a saving throw vs hiding.

We spilled a barrel of oil into the adjoining room. Those barrels are heavy at 10 lb a piece, but they as it turned out they were worth more than their weight...

The highlight of the night was the biggest chained explosion we've every triggered.
Check out those numbers, it spanned three rooms.

Dave cast some spike spell. These awesome spikes do 1d4 piercing damage, and lasts for 99 turns.
Craig's summoned cat barely made it half way across - and this was after all the remaining half burned goblins staggered through to their death.

Oh yeah, we should probably res Craig. We only just stocked up on res scrolls back in town, and we've already used half of them. It was like 300gp for a set, they're not cheap you know - and they certainly don't grow on trees!
